The 3,900-square-metre clubhouse serves the Guomaofu residential development in Tangshan, a city with a long history and a reputation for ceramics. The design draws on local intangible cultural traditions, including shadow puppetry, Pingju opera and Leting drum storytelling, to explore contemporary Eastern aesthetics and culturally grounded living.
In the lobby, patterns from Tangshan shadow puppetry are reinterpreted as art installations. A high ceiling opens up the volume, and projected or cast patterns evoke the atmosphere of a theatrical stage. At the south entrance, a sculpture inspired by the Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow expresses energy and grace. A pine-tree stone carving at the north entrance offers a quieter welcome.
Reception and lounge areas combine refined contemporary design with warm traditional references. Carefully selected materials and colours create a comfortable cultural setting. In the sports areas, mirrored ceilings and illuminated membrane forms extend the space and introduce a sense of movement, combining strength, speed and elegance in an energetic environment.
