This small bistro in Zhujiang New Town, Guangzhou, offers a relaxed pause within the CBD. A themed light installation gathers the evening atmosphere inside, while outdoor seating welcomes the breeze. Within a limited leased area, the design softens the boundary between indoors and outdoors to make the premises feel larger and accommodate more seating.
Speed was a practical priority: commercial and restaurant design experience helped the team establish the project's direction quickly. Detailed drawings coordinated junctions, materials, lighting and building services so that design and construction could proceed closely together.
The design also responds to the operator's need for distinctive branding and commercial performance. The expanded visual connection to the outdoors, integrated brand graphics and a potato-head art light create a memorable identity without relying on expensive finishes.
The potato-head light became the interior's focal point. When available products could not reproduce the design, the team made it by hand using rice paper and linen. Its material expression brings a subtle Eastern sensibility to the space and reflects the project's emphasis on delivering the intended detail.
