A university museum gives physical form to the institution's cultural heritage. Sun Yat-sen University has accumulated more than one million cultural objects and specimens, forming a rich resource for teaching and cultural life.
The museum stands west of the central axis of the Guangzhou South Campus, balancing the library to the east. It occupies a site of approximately 11,000 square metres and has a gross floor area of around 33,000 square metres, with three storeys above ground and two below. Its programme supports teaching, research, talent development and campus cultural life.
The exterior continues the architectural language of the early buildings at Kangleyuan, using red brick, green tiles and characteristic windows, walls, columns and roof forms. These elements relate the museum to its surroundings and to the university's identity. Lingnan-style arches create transitional spaces between indoors and outdoors, bringing local cultural character into the design. The museum expands the campus's cultural resources and supports the university's teaching and research mission.
