The Alumni House reuses a small freestanding building on the university campus that had stood vacant for years. Working within the university's requirement to retain its original structure, the design team explored the building's cultural significance and new role. Contemporary social uses meet an understated original character in a more lively interpretation of the historic setting.
The renewed building has three levels: a café and reading space on the ground floor, a university exhibition hall on the second, and a relaxed rooftop terrace bar on the third. Together they create an open, shared social destination. Students, staff and visitors can encounter the university's educational history and cultural heritage in an inviting everyday environment.
